MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University defeated the Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) in three sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, to force a four-way tie for the lead in Group A of the Spikers' Turf Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Philsports Arena on Wednesday.
The Green Spikers did just enough to hold off the Mariners down the stretch of each set, and wound up producing 47 attacks, two blocks, and two aces. Top hitter Raymark Woo was limited to seven points, but Mike Frey and Cris Dumago picked up the slack with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Arjay Onia added nine hits, Joshua Elorde added five points, and Geuel Asia finished with 35 excellent sets for the Green Spikers.
La Salle thus joined University of Perpetual Help, National University (NU), and Far Eastern University (FEU) at the help of Group A with identical 3-1 records.

NU and Perpetual Help will dispute the first Final Four berth on Saturday, and La Salle and FEU will clash for the other semis spot on August 31.
Keyvin Premaylon fired 11 points, while Erickson Chan and Ram-j Packingan had seven points each for PMMS, which fell to a 0-4 tie with the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.
Meanwhile, the National Collegiate of Business and Arts downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, for its first win in Group B.
The Generals remain winless with a 0-4 record.
